Since the launch of PCAGÂ’s Coronary Heart Disease multi-practice audit in 1999, the protocol has proved extremely popular with over 75% (n=116) of practices in the county having completed at least the first phase of the audit. The development of the electronic CHD audit by Dr David Shepherd has made it increasingly practical for practices to perform an audit on a regular basis. Along with EMIS LV, Dr David Shepherd has now developed the CHD audit set on VAMP Vision & EMIS GV systems. The recent increase in the amount of practices performing CHD audits can be largely accountable to the ease of using the electronic audit set.

PCAG electronic audit for Diabetes is available on the website for EMIS LV and Vision systems (see Miquest queries sets) and should be for EMIS GV in the near future). Since the launch of the electronic audit in 2003, over 40 practice have completed at least a baseline Diabetes electronic audit.

The pattern of housekeeping, audit and recall that has been successful for CHD has been replicated for diabetes. We have built upon the CHD audit to anticipate some of the aspects of the possible new GP contract such as exception reporting.
