INTRODUCTION
The PCAG Quality and Outcomes Points Estimator is designed to give practices a rapid independent estimate of their points score, a rapid view of their statistics, exceptions and a prioritised list of patients not meeting audit criteria who can be targeted. A facility for sending personalised recall letters is also provided along with the ability to integrate this information back into EMIS. Anonymised data can be sent back to PCAG easily by email. This data contains information useful to PCTs in monitoring the contract such as actual versus recorded disease prevalence and the proportion of sub-populations excepted by practices.
EMIS LV
Currently the Estimator is only available on the EMIS LV system. However we are hoping to make it available on all systems when we can gain access to the other systems. If you use another system (EMIS GV, Vision or Torex) and would be willing for PCAG to attend your practice to develop our systems, please contact us.
Demonstration
For those practices who would like to see a demonstration of how the software works (especially non-EMIS LV), we have attached a copy of the excel spreadsheet which is generated for each practice.
This can be viewed by following this link
The spreadsheet is made up of 4 sections see tabs at the bottom of the page CHD, CHD POINTS, CHD EXCEPTIONS and CHD TARGET. Briefly, each page of the spreadsheet looks at
CHD Demographic details of patients with CHD, i.e. CHD register
CHD POINTS details of all the CHD and LVD indicators, the points available, maximum threshold percentage, your achievement (yellow column) and points scored (green column). At the top of this page, you can LINK TO STATISTICS (the actual details of how you are performing in relation to each indicator) and LINK TO GRAPHS (a graphic display of performance in relation to each indicator).
CHD EXCEPTIONS this section generates excepted patients for each indicator and gives a reason why the patient has been excepted.
CHD TARGET this is a particularly useful page, which prioritises patients in relation to their Q&O points score, i.e. how many points practices will gain by reviewing these patients. This page also lists the indicators which each patient is missing in relation to CHD and from this a recall letter can be automatically generated asking the patient to visit the practice for a CHD review. An added bonus of this, is that the recall letter specifies which CHD checks need to be performed, so provided the patient brings the letter to the clinic, this will speed up the process and ensure the patient is reviewed appropriately!
Caveat: this system, based on Miquest, to extract data relevant to the framework is only indicative of points score. It does not have any official status. It is based on published information but differs at points where the published method of calculation may not be the best. These areas are highlighted for discussion. Its intention is to give practices an independent means of calculating their scores and managing exception reporting and targeting of patients for recall. There is likely to be much heated discussion about the framework and we anticipate that practices may find such a view helpful. We've tried hard to make it accurate but if you come across errors please let us know!
