1. Why should I do the course?

Many healthcare staff undertake clinical audits as part of their normal working duties. To do any audit, you need to learn about the audit cycle – and the Certificate in Clinical Audit Skills gives you professional accreditation for that learning.

2. What’s in the course for me?

When you complete the course you will receive three credits at Level Three accredited by Leicestershire Open College Network. On a personal level you can prove that you can learn at a high standard and receive accreditation for that learning. On a professional level, it can prove to your present and future employers that you are flexible and open to new ideas.

3. Will the course cost me anything?

The course is free. Learners are not expected to pay. Your primary commitment to the course is one of time.

4. Will I have to sit any exams?

No. Assessment for the certificate is designed to be as flexible as possible. All learners are assessed via a short written audit report that is submitted at the end of the course. The report will include brief details of the audit you carried out, the data you collected and the improvements that you implemented.

5. Will I have to read any academic books?

Only if you want to! The Certificate is designed to be as flexible as possible. It is work-based and self directed. The course is very practical, learning about audit as you carry one out. However, if you are interested in further reading, the PCAG can provide you with a suitable audit booklist.

6. I have already completed an audit; can I qualify for the certificate by submitting this?

Unfortunately not. The course is geared towards helping learners work through the audit cycle. As part of the assessment process, your tutor will need to see how you tackle each stage of the audit processes.

7. Can a group of us work together on the same audit?

The PCAG prefer learners to carry out their audits individually. This makes it easier when we come to assess learners at the end of the course, as we know that they fully understand all components of the audit cycle. However, we do accept that some audits are best undertaken by a team of staff. Therefore, we are willing to allow groups of staff members to work on an audit project – in such cases a clear action plan needs to be agreed with the tutor at the outset of the audit.

8. How long will it take for me to complete the course?

At the start of the course all learners receive a course guide this will provide you with a timetable and the goals that we expect you to be achieving as the course progresses.
