PCAG Quality and Outcomes Points Estimator

(only for EMIS LV at the moment)

Demonstration version of the Estimator now available by following this link...

Update 1/03/04: The estimator software has been updated to include the February 04 release of codes for the query specification and the methods of exception handling

Update 15/12/03: Several people have asked if they can calculate their patients score by individual GP or groups of GPs within a practice.  This is to cover the situation where practices have personal lists or more that one practice shares the same clinical system.

We have now included this facility within our estimator.  To use it simply extract the data for the whole system as usual and then press the new "grey" button at the top of the Q&O points worksheet.

Choose the doctor or group of doctor(s) you wish to calculate the points for, enter an estimated list size for those doctors and you are off!

Update 1/12/03: The estimator software has been updated to include the November release of codes for the query specification and the methods of exception handling

Currently the Estimator is only available on the EMIS LV system.  However we are hoping to make it available on all systems when we can gain access to the other systems.  If you use another system (EMIS GV, Vision or Torex) and would be willing for PCAG to attend your practice to develop our systems, please contact us.

Introduction

The PCAG Quality and Outcomes Points Estimator is designed to give practices a rapid independent estimate of their points score, a rapid view of their statistics, exceptions and a prioritised list of patients not meeting audit criteria who can be targeted. A facility for sending personalised recall letters is also provided along with the ability to integrate this information back into EMIS. Anonymised data can be sent back to PCAG easily by email. This data contains information useful to PCTs in monitoring the contract such as actual versus recorded disease prevalence and the proportion of sub-populations excepted by practices.

The Estimator uses Miquest Queries to extract the data and then an Excel Spreadsheet performs the calculations using macros.

Consolidating data across disease areas

Many patients covered by the Q&O framework will have more than one of the conditions. These patients (and their practices!) have more to gain by having all the audit criteria met. We have therefore produced a spreadsheet that will combine data from all the disease areas and work out the top priority patients across the whole framework.

Caveat: this system, based on Miquest, to extract data relevant to the framework is only indicative of points score. It does not have any official status. It is based on published information but differs at points where the published method of calculation may not be the best. These areas are highlighted for discussion. Its intention is to give practices an independent means of calculating their scores and managing exception reporting and targeting of patients for recall. There is likely to be much heated discussion about the framework and we anticipate that practices may find such a view helpful. We've tried hard to make it accurate but if you come across errors please let us know!
